Pittsburgh beat maker Ace Valentino, who came onto the scene with a torrent of singles last month, has just released his first focused composition, titled Rich Girls and Broken Dreams. The cohesive 46-minute LP showcases Ace Valentino’s signature nightmarish sound, including phrenetic percussion, hollowed-out drums, and spacey, wandering chords. The LP is, in essence, more of the same of the singles Valentino released last month, which were mostly recorded between 2010 and 2012, but it’s obvious that he’s improved both his technical ability and ability to implement high-level concepts since then.

RGBD’s 10 tracks are tied together by the usual Ace Valentino aesthetic and propelled forward by excerpts from various interviews and TV news stories. The result is an emotive, thoughtful work and a great foundation for Valentino’s discography. Click the link below to download the album for free.

The higher powers of Pittsburgh music have blessed us once again with another EP’s worth of singles from Ace Valentino, who seems to be on a major roll, having released a single every day this February.

The standout track this time is “Collabo” (Art above), which might just be the best this month.

Within the current electronic music scene, it’s hard for an artist to just make music without being automatically assigned to an ever-expanding filing cabinet of made-up sub-genres *ahem* Pitchfork. If it wobbles, it’s post-dubstep. Vocodes? It’s post-grunge (or some shit). If it’s got hi-hats on the 16ths, it’s trap. Forcing these lenses on electronic music is limiting to the listener, the artist, and the genre as a whole. As the genre continues to evolve, styles naturally break, bend, and blend. One day in the future, everything will be post-everything.

Pasadena producer and pure mathematician Slopycopy IS post-everything, and and one of the most pioneering and versatile electronic producers to look out for this year. His sweeping sonic landscapes range from  the familiar dubstep bounce, to raver kid ear-candy, to eerie and downright what-the-fuck, often all in the same song, making him impossible to pigeonhole into a single genre. This year, Slopycopy wrapped up a new album, Satanic, which is available for free download on his BandCamp.

Ace Valentino is a producer and sometimes reluctant rapper who, despite having only attained a local following in his hometown Pittsburgh and a relatively quiet online fan base, has been rumored to be sitting on over 250 un-published beats. This month, however, might be his first big stride into the Internet limelight, as he announced on Twitter that will be uploading select tracks from his catalog to his SoundCloud on a daily basis. Aside from music, he’s also photographer and graphic designer, and his he graces each one of his tracks with his own custom artwork.  He’s already posted the following, an EP’s worth of singles, this month, and we’ll have more by the day as he continues to flood the web with his deep back-catalog.
